airbus scraps battery plans after boeing\'s 787 struggles

After the lithium in progress
The ion battery problem has paralyzed Boeing\'s global fleet.
European rival Airbus\'s 787 Dreamliner canceled plans to use the technology on its new aircraft.

The company said Friday that the body passenger plane will use the \"verified and mastered\" nickel-cadmium main battery.
\"For program execution and reliability of A350 XWB, Airbus sees this as the most appropriate way forward,\" the company said . \".
The A350 XWB, which will be put into use in 2014, can accommodate between 270 and 350 passengers in a typical three-month periodclass layouts.
The European company went public for $254.
$3 million to $332.
1 million, depending on the version ordered.
Airbus said the reason for the change could be traced back to Boeing\'s struggle with the 787 Dreamliner, which is under security investigation.
The Federal Aviation Administration suspended 787 flights in January.
16, in less than two weeks, the lithium of the plane-
It was found that the ion battery was burning.
Since then, investigators have investigated the battery design and certification process of 78 7.
But the root cause is still a mystery.
The FAA has become aware of the potential for flammable lithium
Ion batteries for years
Nevertheless, when the agency certified flight 787 to operate, it issued special conditions for lithium on 2007.
The ion battery is installed on 787 because its regulations do not cover the technology.
Due to their chemical properties, rechargeable batteries can store as much energy as the 50%-heavy nickel metal hydrogen battery pack, while charging and discharging faster than other battery types.
This makes them attractive to military applications such as B-
Bombers used on the International Space Station and the Mars probe.
Airbus says they have confidence in lithium.
The ion battery architecture it developed for the A350 XWB is \"sturdy and secure \".
But it has decided to start its \"Plan B\" and resume the use of the nickel-cadmium main battery.
Boeing spokesman Marc Birtel made a statement on behalf of the Chicago company after the Airbus announcement.
Boeing is confident in the safety and reliability of lithium
\"Ion batteries,\" he said.
\"Our years of experience and deep expertise confirm that, as with other technologies, lithium-when proper battery, system, and aircraft protection is in place-
The ion battery has brought great benefits.
