Nickel or nickel-Metal hydrogen batteries are common rechargeable batteries in electronic products such as digital cameras, laptops, mobile phones, toys, etc.Once NiMH batteries die, they should not be disposed of in regular garbage.Treat them as hazardous waste and process them through your county\'s hazardous waste plan or they should be recycled.Many large retailers are involved in a rechargeable battery recycling program.Place the rechargeable batteries in a plastic sandwich bag until you are ready to process them.Call Rechargeable Battery Recycling Company 1-800-822-8831.They will provide you with a list of companies and local businesses involved in Rechargeable Battery Recycling in your area.Find the recycle bin in the participating store, usually in front of the store.Remove the battery from the bag and put it into the slot.Place the rechargeable batteries in a plastic sandwich bag until you are ready to process them.Use the phone book or the online search engine to find the hazardous waste department in your county and call the agency to ask about hazardous waste disposal.Handle the battery as per the instructions given to you by the local hazardous waste department.Depending on the county, they may have a specific number of days of collection of hazardous waste on the side of the road or a specific location for collection of hazardous waste.
