Portable Power Banks - Lies, Danger and Potentially Deadly

Popular among the mobile crowd is the power bank or mobile battery pack/charger.Given our obsession with facebook and youtube, energetic tablets and phones quickly ran out of batteries. The biggest nightmare for a busy executive is that there is no even Noon and your battery is dead.
In this case, powerbank can be a real lifesaver..Due to the popularity of these devices, a large number of new entrants have entered an already crowded market.Power Banks are increasingly marketing with higher capacity or mAh.
5600 mAh, 1200 mAh, even an incredible 50000 mAh!At the same time, crazy low prices have been circulating around to attract consumers.Logically, it feels wrong.Where is the catch?Given that the iPAD has a battery capacity of 11666 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a battery capacity of 2600, I am confused as to why we even need such a large power supply group.Among unscrupulous manufacturers, one of the most common and imperceptible practices is to fake the declared capacity of the battery.
I met this Chinese manufacturer at a China trade fair who sold the power bank for an amazing price.Out of curiosity, I asked the salesperson in more detail about the product.Through some surveys, I realized that the reason why the price is so cheap is because they cut corners on the product.
I am shocked that they openly admit that the industry standard is to use a 1800 mAh battery in the product and pass it out as a 2400 mAh battery.A more careful comparison with many other manufacturers at the same trade fair seems to confirm my suspicions. Each of them, however, has a similar product design with capacity ranging from 2200, 2400, 2600 and 2800 to 3200 mAh.
What is even more doubtful is the product sold at a price of 6000 mAh or more, but it doesn\'t seem too light to carry.I would back down whenever I met an online buyer who commented that their 30000 mAh powerbank was great because it was light. In fact, the only reason powerbank is light is because the manufacturer cheated the number of batteries inside.
By arranging various units (usually Li-polymer or Li-Ion 18650 battery) series. In that beautiful case, powerbank functions just like the AA battery we are familiar. So the only reason you did thatThe battery, known as 30000 mAh, is light as it may lack a considerable number of batteries.
Even if you feel the weight is right, it may not be right.A famous photo (from lowyat.Net) the loop around the network succinctly proves this.A good case to advertise for some huge capacity at an impossible attractive price.
Open it and you get a cell with a lot of sand.Since the capacity of the battery is difficult to test, it is not clear to most dealers and retailers.Of course, there are many grades of batteries produced, similar to any product such as fruit or airline seats.
There is Grade A scrap along the way.
The best quality batteries are almost never available to the 3rd-square manufacturer. For example, large factories made for Sony or Samsung will naturally use the best class A batteries for their own product labels. These batteries are very good and usually have a 1 year warranty.
The second layer is a mid-range label, etc. Therefore, this cheap power bank without a brand may use inferior batteries. It not only keeps the charge bad, but also the charge transmission is very poor.
So the 30000 battery pack you bought may not even be able to charge 5000 in reality! In addition, the risk is that the battery does not belong to the same batch. We know that battery manufacturers always recommend not to mix batteries of different brands, or even batteries of different batches. The power bank has the same theory.Mixing different batches can cause current instability or can cause problems with charging/discharging, thus damaging your electronics!Although most modern mobile devices are using Li-Polymer batteries are used as their power supply, and most cheap products on the market use cylindrical or prism Li-Ion battery.
Major problems or hazards of LiLithium ion batteries and lithium batteriesPolymer batteries are, they overheat when charging for a long time. When the battery is fully charged, there is an over-charging IC on its board to cut off the charge. However, in a poorly manufactured battery, if the IC fails, the battery may explode when it is on fire or overcharged.
This is a real risk because most users will charge their power bank at night while sleeping.Similar to the power bank, mobile phone batteries made in China have exploded.A quick check of the network can lead to incidents of death due to a battery explosion.
In a recent case 2013, the Samsung S4 Galaxy battery caught fire and burned an apartment in China. All of this is due to overheating of the battery and product IC failure. The last thing they want to see for cheap manufacturers is your safety.
What can you do?What can you do as a consumer? It is well known that it is difficult to test the reliability of the power bank. Some opinions are common.Skeptical about power banks that sound too cheap to be true. This is often the case.Buy products from famous brands. In general, when they care about their brand image and reputation, they will have a higher level of quality control.
Do your research.
Read reviews from customers.
Don\'t let your power bank charge overnight.Choose Li-Polymer battery on Li-If possible.Choose a smaller capacity if possible so that the risk of fire/failure is lower.
You just need powerbank to take you to power main, don\'t you?So, why do you need a 50000 product to charge for 5 times?
