BERLIN (Reuters)-
Volkswagen said on Monday it had expressed its intention to participate in a state-funded plan to support the production of electric vehicle batteries to the German ministry of economy.
\"The Volkswagen group wants to participate in the initiative of economy minister Altai Maier to support the industrial production of mobile and static batteries,\" the company said in a statement . \".
More than 30 companies have applied for plans to support battery production, the ministry said on Monday.
Companies such as Volkswagen\'s rival BMW and battery maker Varta are interested.
