Beijing, Sept. 24, 2025 — Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a video address at the United Nations Climate Change Summit, marking the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and a pivotal stage for submitting new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Strengthening Confidence — Green and low-carbon transition is the trend of the times. The world must stay on course despite setbacks and continue advancing climate governance.
Taking Responsibility — Upholding fairness and equity while respecting the development rights of developing countries. Developed nations should lead in emission reductions and provide more financial and technological support.
Deepening Cooperation — Enhancing international collaboration in green technology and industry to close capacity gaps and ensure the free flow of sustainable products worldwide.
Xi announced China's new NDC targets:
Nationwide greenhouse gas emissions are expected to decline by 7%–10% from peak levels by 2035.
Non-fossil fuels to exceed 30% of total energy consumption.
Wind and solar power installed capacity to reach 3.6 billion kW, six times the 2020 level.
Forest stock volume to surpass 24 billion cubic meters.
New energy vehicles (NEVs) to dominate new car sales.
Expansion of the carbon trading market to cover all major industries.
Building a climate-resilient society.
Xi emphasized that these targets represent China's maximum effort under the Paris Agreement. Their achievement will require both significant domestic effort and a favorable, open international environment.
Analysts point out that reaching 3.6 billion kW of renewable energy capacity will be impossible without large-scale deployment of China's battery energy storage solutions. Wind and solar are intermittent by nature, and energy storage systems (ESS) are the backbone for balancing supply and demand, ensuring grid stability, and maximizing renewable utilization.
Chinese companies are already accelerating innovation in this field. GSL ENERGY, a leading manufacturer of lithium battery energy storage systems, provides scalable solutions from residential energy storage batteries to industrial and commercial BESS projects. With installations in more than 138 countries, GSL ENERGY is contributing to both China's domestic transition and the global renewable energy supply chain.
Xi concluded by reaffirming China's determination and confidence to deliver on its promises. He called on all parties to take active steps to realize the vision of harmony between humanity and nature and to safeguard the planet as a shared home.
